[DIYbio] Re: useful lab instrument display = e-paper? OLED? touchscreen?

How much information do you need to display? And how important is it for this gadget to be unpluggable?

The e-paper display you linked to is really tiny. I'd rather have a larger OLED or even LCD display that you don't need to squint at, even though that might mean it uses a bit more energy...

No, they have very high innate reflectivity -- like paper.
And you can see them from a viewing angle of 15 degrees.
With the power off.

[DIYbio] useful lab instrument display = e-paper? OLED? touchscreen?

One kind I had hoped for, e-paper, seems too expensive to make a profit from:

http://www.pervasivedisplays.com/products/144
Pricing for 500pcs is $9.45 each, Ex Works Hong Kong

Would bio folks care more for that high contrast, visible from the side at a glance look,
and stays displaying last results indefinitely
vs. OLED high contrast display that is on when power is on, dark otherwise?

Touch screen is not part of these, and has to be layered over them just like cell phone construction,
so touch could be added to any kind of display.

Re: [DIYbio] Where do you get sequencing done

Amplicons can be difficult to sequence on new platforms. The massive parallel sequencing isn't designed to work with populations that have extremely similar sequences.

You may want to see if there is anyone out there providing pyrosequencing services. This method is better / more accurate for determining the sequence of a single gene or amplified product

You want to sequence a DNA amplicon from a plasmid or you want to send them a whole plasmid and have it sequenced?

Re: [DIYbio] Where do you get sequencing done

Just a DNA amplicon, or just the insert of a plasmid. I was thinking GeneWiz, but just wanted to check if there was anything commonly used by other DIYbiologist.
